Digital Badge Activities
Digital Badges are online credentials. Each badge on average contains 10-15 hours of work for students, equivalent to one college credit. Digital badges live on an online platform to verify that students have shown improvement in a certain area or accomplished a concrete task. The idea is that students can link to badges on LinkedIn profiles, in resumes, as well as college and professional applications. Recruiters can click through to find a record of the students’ achievement.
BTE is using badges adapted from Education Design Lab. These badges are based on “21st Century Skills” and were all developed in conjunction with a university. Students’ badges will be recorded on Acclaim and linked at the BTE website. Acclaim is the Learning Management System that houses all digital badges and earner credentials. Each participant will need to create an Acclaim profile via the Acclaim website (www.youracclaim.com). Once a participant has created an Acclaim profile and successfully completes a digital badge series, they can then claim their digital badge directly through their Acclaim account.
Each digital badge is comprised of four “sub-competencies,” which students must demonstrate understanding of in order to earn the badge. Below are activities that teach each sub-competency for the noted badges.
