Digital Badges are online credentials. Each badge should be 15-20 hours of work for students, equivalent to one college credit. They live on an online platform to verify that students have shown improvement in a certain area or accomplished a concrete task. The idea is that students can link to badges on LinkedIn profiles, in resumes, or on applications, and recruiters can click through to find a record of the students’ achievement.

BTE is using badges from Education Design Lab. These badges are based on “21st Century Skills” and were all developed in conjunction with a university. Students’ badges will be recorded on and linked at the BTE website.

Each badge is comprised of four “Sub-Competencies,” which students must demonstrate understanding of in order to earn the badge. Below are activities that teach each sub-competency for the noted badges.
